Our hostel is set right in the middle of a stunning jungle, whilst some of Colombia's best beaches are just a 30 minute walk away.

Tubing right from our doorstep
Horse riding
Rafting
Paddle boarding
Motorbike rent
Waterfall hikes
Sunrise hikes over the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta
Cacao and nature tours
In 2021, Rio Hostel became a signatory of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative (GTPI), led by the UN Environmental Programme (UNEP) and the World Tourism Organization (WTO), in collaboration with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. We are also the very proud home of the Rio Foundation and you can volunteer with us every day in our local community through our educational, sporting and/or environmental programmes.
N.B - To fund our Foundation, which provides FREE, Fun, Inclusive and Impactful activities for 150+ local children every week, a $1.30 donation (COP$5,000) will be added to the bill of everyone who stays at El Rio. If you would like to remove it from your bill or you would like to donate more, please talk to reception.

if you are 20 and you are willing to party everyday this is your hostel! if you are 30 and you need a place where you can chose what to do in the evening, avoid El Rio. The music is loud and won't let you sleep. The hostel is isolated from everything so if you don't like the party there you feel trapped because you won't have other options. The drinks are expensive too

Overall enjoyed our time in el rio, a beautiful place staff are great and food is very good. Good atmosphere, although the in house DJ was genuinely terrible and ruined what could’ve been a really great night. Some fun activities but the volunteering ones are very disorganised, tubing was great though. Would definitely go again if they played some different music.

This hostel has everything you need in its own grounds so even though the location is a bit isolated, you don’t really need to go far. It’s purely a party and relax hostel from what I saw. People swimming and tubing during the day, drinking and partying at night. The best nights to go are Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
The best thing about the hostel was the foundation they run with the local kids. They host sessions where you can volunteer regularly and I would 100% encourage everyone to take part and giv
