Pacific Coast Backpackers Lodge

Pacific Coast Lodge and Backpackers is an award-winning hostel, located in Mount Maunganui, which is voted New Zealand's best beach!
Only a short walk from us, it sparkles with 100km of white sandy beaches and enticing blue ocean. The seaside resort town is New Zealander's favorite holiday destination with the spectacular crashing surf beach on one side and the tranquil sheltered harbour on the other, drawing thousands of holidaymakers every summer season and the international traveler throughout the year.

We are a working hostel, we assist our guests in finding jobs! Anything from orchard work, to factory, hospo and labouring jobs. We have people calling us daily for workers! We also have a van to help with transport.

We have a variety of shared facility rooms to enjoy, with a huge communal fully equipped kitchen with free tea/coffee/herbs/spices, an outdoor courtyard with BBQ's free to use, our very own games and reading room waiting for you to challenge us to a game of Ping Pong, or even have a jam on our guitars, along with a separate lounge room upstairs with a smart TV and a NetFlix account.
You can choose to stay in a dormitory room or in the comfort of your own private room. Toilet and bathroom facilities are shared. Laundry facilities are available. All rooms come with duvets. Towels can be hired for $4 each.

We have FREE surfboards to use so you can enjoy the sunshine and catch a few waves! We also have free on-site parking!

Check in is 2pm (however you may arrive earlier as we can store your luggage, but your room may not be ready) and the front door is closed at 9pm.
Check out 10am.

A photo identification and credit card will be asked upon arrival. Please make sure you have both, it is required to stay with us.

We are situated at 432 Maunganui road which is the main road into Mount Maunganui (and also the main road of the Mount). We have a big beautiful outside mural and next to the McDonalds.
The local bus stop is located right out the front of the Backpackers, hop on Bus #5 if you have arrived into Tauranga.
The INTERCITY bus stop is also right outside, choose stop code PCL Pacific Coast Lodge for Intercity.

Check in: 2 pm - 9pm. In case of early arrival, we can store your luggage and you are welcome to hang out in our lounge while you wait.

Check out: 8am - 10am.


All guests require photo ID to check in - either your passport, 18+ card or valid NZ driver’s license and Credit Card Details on registering into the hostel. Please make sure you ALL have this to avoid disappointment. Late check-ins till midnight are available on request.
Our office is open 8am to 9pm daily. 



CANCELLATION and NO-SHOW policies:
Bookings are non-refundable. Changes or cancellations are not allowed. The property will charge the outstanding amount at any time after the booking has been made. In case your card is not valid, the property will contact you asking for new card details. If you don't provide the details within 24 hours, the property is entitled to cancel your booking.
No refund will be given, should you alter your reserved dates or leave for any reason before your reserved departure date.

All guests during the summer peak season period must be 21+ years of age to stay.

Please note for GROUPS OF 6 OR MORE, special conditions apply at all times (a preauthorization on a credit card in case of incidentals will be taken on arrival and an assurance form will have to be completed before arrival). Your beds must be book directly with us over the phone or by email for groups of 6 or more.



COVID-19 UPDATE: We have implemented special procedures during the Coronavirus outbreak to help keep our housemates and guests safe and Healthy, including increased cleaning, hand sanitizer and sprays available throughout the hostel. If you experience any symptoms such as fever, cough or shortness of breath, Please call our hostel BEFORE you arrive so we can discuss the best alternatives for your specific situation.
